I have nothing but praise for UKBB and the commitment of its staff. Whether it’s the emergency department, hospital ward or administration - from junior doctors and nurses to the consultants - everyone has always made every effort to make a visit here as least stressful as possible. The care is exemplary! Every question we ever had was answered in detail and without rushing, we always knew what is the next step, every procedure was done in a way to minimize stress for the child and make the best out of a scary situation. And this was not a one off experience. Yes, waiting times can be long but this is not by choice or lack of organization. UKBB is one of Basel’s gems and I hope it stays that way.
Each time I go there with my baby I leave being told to give Ibuprofen to the baby, irrespective of the disease. 1. The baby had fever 39.9, she was not tested for anything, sent home with reco for ibuprofen. When I tested her, she had Covid. 3 days later, the baby's body was swelling, she could not turn in bed/walk anymore. 3 doctors looked at her for several hours asa sort of "misterious object", then sent home us without tests - no heart/no kidneys tests. 2. The baby was thicking all symptoms for influenza - the doctor refused to test her as "we do not waste the tests!" I am sorry? I was paying it, not stealing it! Of course, I got the reco to give ibuprofen to the baby. 3. Today we went there again. I honestly wonder myself why, since I could anticipate the outcome. The baby has otitis, confirmed by the UKBB doctor, however she refused to prescribe any antibiotic and aske me to wait two more days until Monday. And just give to the baby.... ibuprofen. The baby got 40.2 fever 2 hours after receiving ibuprofen (this is why we went to UKBB, not just to take a walk till UKBB) and paracetamol doesn't stop her fever at all. So, I have to wait two more days with a baby crying that her ears are hurting bad, with fever over 40, just for UKBB doctors to proudly thick that they do not prescribe antibiotics? Are those doctors there to help people in need or just to encourage sales for ibuprofen?
On 26 December, we brought our daughter to UKBB due to difficulty breathing accompanied by laryngitis. She was treated with ibuprofen, paracetamol, flurbiprofen, and Nasivin. As she was preparing for discharge, she again began experiencing breathing difficulties. We requested a further consultation with the physician, at which point we were asked whether we would consent to the use of an adrenaline inhaler. We were informed that, if administered, our daughter would need to remain at the hospital for up to 4 hours for observation to ensure there were no complications. I stayed with our daughter while my wife returned to our hotel and my daughter was discharged after less than an hour after receiving what we were told was adrenalin. The following day, we were forced to delay our return flights for my wife and both children because Amy once again experienced breathing difficulties. Upon returning to the hospital, we were informed that Amy was having a reaction to the inhaler she had been given the previous day. We were further advised that the medication administered on 26 December was NOT ADRENALINE, but an alternative drug that had been given by a nurse without our consent and without notification or explanation from the attending physician. Once Amy was finally administered adrenaline, her symptoms improved almost immediately. We take serious issue with the fact that a medication was administered to our daughter on 26 December without our informed consent, and apparently without appropriate physician oversight, which directly resulted in complications and the need for additional medical care. Equally concerning is that no member of your staff offered my wife an apology or acknowledgment of this error. As a result of this incident, we incurred: An additional 500 CHF in hospital charges on 27 December Two additional nights of hotel accommodations at the Marriott Airfare change fees for three tickets The absence of accountability, empathy, or basic professiona
