I attended an event hosted by the company Catapulta Digital at the invitation of an acquaintance, with the goal of learning more about their work. However, the event was clearly structured like a sales pitch: repeated speeches about refunds if the mentorship wasn't effective, people pre-selected to give success stories, and strong psychological pressure to close the deal. During the event, they called in people who were still undecided for individual conversations. I was called in because I have a rapidly growing company and had already participated in three previous mentorship programs; this would have been my fourth. My main concern was lack of time, which I made clear from the beginning. In my conversation with Hugo, I was convinced in every possible way. He even shook my hand and explicitly stated that cancellation would be easy, without any hassle, if we realized it didn't make sense for us, and that the money would be refunded. Due to his insistence, I had to call my wife and business partner into the conversation. Again, it was emphasized that we could cancel without problems and that the money would be refunded, and that the mentorship would be extremely productive for our company. Trusting this speech, which was repeated throughout the event, we decided to hire the mentorship program, for R$ 12,000.00. However, I couldn't attend the only in-person meeting because I was traveling. Furthermore, due to a complete lack of time, we were unable to follow the subsequent content. It quickly became clear that the mentorship program would not deliver the promised value, especially considering our current business reality and stage. To our surprise, the company informed us that they would refund less than half the amount, claiming "content delivery," completely contradicting the speech that was decisive in our purchase decision.
